Blending Tradition with Contemporary Style

About Yukka Origami
Yukka Origami was founded by artist Yukako Shibata as a quiet exploration of paper, form, and cultural memory.
Each piece is individually folded by hand in her London studio, transforming a simple sheet of paper into a sculptural object to be worn or displayed. Drawing on the precision of traditional Japanese origami and her background in abstract painting and sculpture, Yukako creates designs that feel both delicate and architectural.
Her work is guided by a refined sense of colour, balance, and minimal form. The result is contemporary origami jewellery and objects that sit between art and adornment — subtle yet distinctive.
Yukka Origami is rooted in Japanese craftsmanship while embracing modern simplicity.

Studio Practice
Working primarily with paper as a sculptural medium, Yukako approaches origami as a contemplative process. Each fold is deliberate; each form evolves through repetition and precision.
The act of folding becomes both structural and meditative — a dialogue between control and fragility. Through this process, flat material transforms into three dimensional form, echoing her wider fine art practice.
No two pieces are ever completely identical. Small variations are a natural part of the handmade process and a reflection of the care invested in each creation.

About Yukako
Yukako Shibata is a multi-disciplinary artist specialising in abstract and minimalist painting and sculpture. Although her fine art does not directly reference Japanese culture, an appreciation for Japanese aesthetics — restraint, balance, and quiet detail — runs through her work.
Yukka Origami was established in 2020, during the stillness of the pandemic, as a way to reconnect with traditional craft while creating contemporary, wearable forms.
